"We spend far too long moving the deckchairs on the Titanic when we really need to be looking out for icebergs; we all know that most of an iceberg is below the surface and that this is the bit that does all the damage."
Brendan Dunphy, 'How to farm lightning'

....and maybe because of "sacred cows".......?

...and some things you should know about them....
bullet

'Sacred cows' are the cultures, practices, beliefs and attitudes that go unchallenged within a company. Very often they came about for a good reason but too often they linger on beyond their sell-by date - know your sacred cows and their SELL BY dates.

bullet

Sometimes they may be nothing more than a joke or a nuisance but on occasions they can be real barriers to change - learn to tell the difference and recognise them for what they truly are, DISPOSABLE!

bullet

Recognise that a 'sacred cow' came into being because it fulfilled a valid role in the past BUT the future may have no need of it - learn to recognise the 'tipping point' when it no longer creates, but DESTROYS VALUE.

bullet

Unfortunately leaders can become very wedded to their 'scared cows' and fail to recognise when divorce is the best for both parties - help your leadership to recognise its TIME TO MOVE ON and celebrate the freedom to do things differently!
